Any chance of Ballarat locals ushering in the new year with fireworks at midnight have been knocked in the head by council.
Instead, Lake Wendouree will see a 15-minute display at the ‘family friendly’ time of 9.30pm only.
City of Ballarat Chief Executive Officer Evan King says they’ll see how it’s received this year before making a decision on what 2025 may look like.
“Council made the decision in February to hold fireworks on New Year’s Eve, the first one will be a test to see how well that goes.”
“The budget that was provided for it allowed to do one session only this year,” Mr. King said.
The fireworks were originally held on Australia Day for many years before recently moving to ‘Summer Sunday’s’ in February, this will be the first time they’ve been held on New Year’s Eve.
