Safety works drag on as Bridge Mall traders hope for speedy re-opening

As the previously unseen bridge in the Bridge Mall gets exposed by workers the City of Ballarat still can’t say when the project will be complete.

An extra $4.7m is being spent to make the bridge safety compliant so one-way traffic can run through the area once more.

However, Mayor Cr. Tracey Hargreaves says the reopening timeline is unclear.

“Works on the 153-year-old bridge to make it safe are still being done.”

“I don’t have a date but it’s going to happen,” Mayor Hargreaves said.

Bridge Mall store owners are desperately hoping it will be open soon to take advantage of Christmas trading.
