An international futsal star has travelled to Ballarat in search of local talent for next year’s United Futsal ‘Futures’ program in Spain.
Spanish national team player and Inter Movistar legend Adrian ‘Pola’ Alonso Pereira is visiting the city as part of a scouting tour for the youth futsal training camp, bringing together elite coaching staff to work with young players across the globe.
With the Ballarat trial on this Thursday, registrations are open now at the AIFT website.
Ballarat Futsal Club co-director Andrew Burgess says it’s a great coup for the sport and for the club.
“It’s great recognition around what we’ve been doing in Ballarat now for over 15 years,” he said.
“To have a world force in futsal back us to bring out one of the best players there’s been in Spanish futsal ever to come and have a look at the kids just shows just how far futsal has come, how well regarded our club is and just how much talent we have in regional Victoria, and they want to tap into that.”
It’s been a great year for local futsal, with several Ballarat under ten players returning home with silver medals after the World Futsal Championships in Orlando back in August.
