Ballarat councillor Des Hudson has withdrawn his mayoral nomination for the upcoming council term.
The newsroom understands he has however nominated for the position of deputy mayor.
Councillor Hudson was first elected mayor in 2015, before being re-elected during the last two council terms.
He hopes this council can get off to a great start and continue to deliver great outcomes for the local community.
“In the best interests of harmony and the ability for council to get out of the blocks well, I decided that I would withdraw my nomination [so] potentially if there are a couple of candidates that might nominate, there should be a majority winner,” he said.
The newly elected Ballarat councillors will choose a new mayor and deputy at a meeting tonight.
