A retiring Ballarat councillor has hit out at a local MP after he got involved with the current council election.

State upper house Liberal member Joe McCracken has authorised a flyer that focuses on Greens councillor Belinda Coates, suggesting she shouldn’t bring international matters to the council table such as Palestine and nuclear disarmament.

However, Cr. Peter Eddy says it’s a disgraceful and unfair attack on all councillors who have served over the last four years.

“Despite less than a handful of debates around broad social policy over the past four years it seems that Mr. McCracken’s view is that this is all that Council has focused on in that time.”

“The fact that the flyer then goes on to single out one councillor in a blatant attempt to trash that person’s reputation is to my mind shameful,” Cr. Eddy said.
