New accommodation has been found for the remaining residents of Reid’s Guest House in Ballarat.

After more than 20 years, Uniting VicTas announced in April the safe haven for homeless locals would be sold, as it was no longer fit for purpose.

In a statement, Group Manager for Homelessness and Community Support, Jerry Ham, says all 25 residents living at Reid’s in April have now been moved into long-term housing.

“Since announcing the closure of Reid’s, we’ve been working with each resident to find new housing which suits their individual needs.”

“We’ll continue to provide support to each of the residents over the coming months to help make their transition as smooth as possible,” Mr. Ham said.

Meantime, a planning application from Uniting to build 24 new community housing apartments in Albert Street in Ballarat’s CBD has been submitted for review.

The $15.5m project that re-purposes land would be across the road from its Dana Street services.
