The Palace Regent Cinema has officially re-opened in Ballarat’s CBD today.

Despite a small glitch with its point-of-sale system the day reportedly went well with families enjoying the school holidays flocking back to see movies on the big screen.

Palace Cinema CEO Ben Zeccola says a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to open the theatre which was forced into liquidation in late June.

“We had to go to the bank and say there is a spectacular cinema in Ballarat that’s closed, and we want to play a role in re-opening it.”

“We want to buy the assets, and we want to open the doors and start trading.”

“We had to provide a business plan to the bank and demonstrate how we thought that would be sustainable and with cinema it’s a bit of a gamble,” Mr. Zeccola said.

Around 800 people applied for a job on the new Palace Regent team with eight former employees returning.
