Daylesford Community Op Shop (DCOS) is far more than a typical op shop; it serves as a vibrant community hub dedicated to providing emergency and material aid. Operating entirely on the efforts of dedicated volunteers, DCOS offers a diverse range of affordable items, including clothing, shoes, furniture, homewares, and various other goods. All profits are reinvested into the Shire, with no government funding or Local Government Authority (LGA) Tip Vouchers, ensuring that every dollar stays within our community.
DCOS is committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship through its Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle ethos, which helps minimize landfill waste and reduce our carbon footprint. Beyond its retail operations, DCOS plays a crucial role in offering specialized assistance for individuals and community groups in crisis. This includes providing financial aid, guidance, and support, as well as partnering with other organizations and community groups for events and initiatives.
The op shop also fosters social connections by creating volunteering opportunities that offer training and support. In addition, DCOS works to match individuals to housing and refers them to relevant agencies, contributing to housing solutions and participating in broader housing analyses and reviews.
DCOS provides critical support for people fleeing family violence and works to enhance community capability and resilience. It offers emergency assistance during crises such as bushfires, floods, and house fires, and collaborates with schools and local groups to provide welfare, goods, and training.
Registered with Centrelink for volunteers and community service programs, DCOS also distributes vouchers through agencies like Central Highlands Rural Health and the Good Grub Club. By offering financial material aid and invaluable community connections, DCOS addresses gaps in other services, creating a resilient, supportive network for all.
