It’s official, Daylesford will play host to The Block TV show on Channel 9 next year.

The move hasn’t come without controversy however.

Hepburn Shire Council originally approved the five-dwelling development on the Raglan Street / Midland Highway corner at their October meeting last year, with a significant number of conditions, including the retention and protection of all Avenue of Honour trees.

This decision was appealed at VCAT by residents, after which the Minister for Planning issued a permit allowing the development.

The Minister’s permit includes a number of requirements around landscaping, construction, stormwater and environmentally sustainable design.

The show’s executive producer Julian Cress has revealed that the plan was to film in Daylesford this year before being forced to pivot to Phillip Island.

Hepburn Shire Mayor Cr. Brian Hood says the town will provide a picturesque backdrop for the show and hopes the cast and crew will support local businesses.
