Hundreds of Ballarat residents came together at a rally on Friday night, calling for an end to violence against women.
It comes after the alleged murders of three Ballarat women this year, Samantha Murphy, Rebecca Young and Hannah McGuire.
Marches walked from the Ballarat Train Station to Camp Street in the city’s CBD, before speeches were delivered by a number of local women at an evening vigil.
Speaking on the night, Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said sadly over the last few months, many in the community have also been suffering behind closed doors.
“Whether violence is on our news or happening behind closed doors, we say as a community it has got to stop,” she said.
Family members and friends of the deceased also spoke at Friday night’s vigil.
Husband of Samantha Murphy, Mick Murphy, thanked the community for supporting his family and the cause.
He urged people to let authorities know if there’s something you see that you don’t think is correct.
