Ballarat’s mayor says council will continue to lobby against the site of a new Ballarat East substation, despite Powercor saying it has no plans to change it.
The $30m piece of infrastructure will sit amongst homes in York Street, despite strong community opposition.
In announcing the development last month, the company said a community benefits package will also be rolled out, which included payments for neighbours of the site and investment in local parks.
Mayor Des Hudson says council received two petitions against the location of the substation at last week’s meeting.
“It really seems like a David and Goliath issue that [as] council, we have very little space to be able to influence other than through advocacy,” he said.
“We’re happy to do that as much as we possibly can for the residents.”
