Ballarat basketball great Ray Borner will fly to the Gold Coast this weekend to be part of an event that features his name.
The NBL Blitz is a pre-season competition with the most-valuable-player receiving the Ray Borner Medal.
The four-time Olympian says it’s a special feeling to have the medal named after him.
“Yeah, it is a great honour.”
“It’s something that was put in place a reasonable amount of time ago now because I was the first Australian player to win the most valuable player award in the NBL.”
“They decided to name it after me in the pre-season tournament, so yes, it is a good honour,” Mr. Borner said.
The tournament kicks off tomorrow with South East Melbourne taking on Tasmania.
