Extinction Rebellion Ballarat are planning a protest at the offices of Central Highlands Water in Wendouree tomorrow, with some protestors likely dressed as koalas.
They say not enough is being done by the water authority to protect koalas, kangaroos and wallabies on a blue gum plantation it owns at Gordon.
The 20-year-old plantation is leased by Midway Limited.
It’s unclear when harvesting is set to take place and if the wildlife population will be moved.
“Over the past nine months, advocates for the koalas have contacted the office of the Minister for Environment, Ingrid Stitt numerous times, but are yet to receive a reply,” said Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Miriam Robinson.
“DEECA are supposed to be advising Midway on protocol, and if the minister’s office believes that these koalas should be relocated, then why are DEECA officers on the ground not advising Midway to apply for this permit?”
Central Highlands Water has been contacted for comment.
