Train “in a heap” following derailment south of Ballarat

A section of a freight train was left a crumpled mess .. after a derailment at Inverleigh, south of Ballarat.

The Melbourne-Adelaide rail corridor is now closed.

Aerial photos show more than Eight cream-coloured freight carriages lying in a heap.

Other parts of the train are strewn along the rain line.

SES boss Tim Wiebusch said it was quite a scene for crews.

“It will certainly take quite some time to clear that one up,” he said.

The Hamilton Highway has been blocked.
